The Watertown Unified School District (WUSD) Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of James G. Feil as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the 2026–2027 school year.

Mr. Feil will officially join the district on August 1, 2026, beginning his transition in a remote capacity before assuming full leadership responsibilities. In this one-year appointment, he will serve as the WUSD's Chief Executive Officer and primary advisor to the Board of Education while the District conducts a comprehensive search for a permanent superintendent.

Mr. Feil brings extensive executive leadership experience in K-12 education, having served in superintendent and senior leadership roles in school districts across Wisconsin and Michigan, as well as in higher education. 

In prior positions Mr. Feil has emphasized academic improvement (including reading achievement), strategic planning, facilities and operational efficiency, and community engagement. He is expected to maintain momentum on WUSD’s existing priorities while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across the district’s schools and departments. 

Mr. Feil succeeds the co-interim arrangement under which Director of Special Education and Student Services, Sarah Oudenhoven and Director of Innovation, Technology, Data and Strategy Jason Bull, who have led the WUSD since January 2026. The Board and District administration thank Oudenhoven and Bull for their dedicated service as co-interim superintendents and appreciate the ongoing support of WUSD families, staff, and community members as the District continues to move forward. 

About James G. Feil
James G. Feil is an experienced educational leader with decades of service in public education and higher education. Throughout his career, he has held superintendent and executive leadership positions in school districts in Wisconsin and Michigan, where he led strategic planning, operational improvements, student achievement initiatives and community engagement efforts. In addition to his K-12 leadership experience, Feil has served in higher education, bringing a broad perspective on educational leadership, organizational development and workforce preparation.
