Dear WUSD Community,
We are writing to share that several members of our Board of Education, along with our Superintendent, are currently attending the School Boards for Academic Excellence Summer Break Conference in Covington, Kentucky.
We are aware of the ongoing conversation on social media regarding this event and the organization hosting it. While some of the groups sponsoring the event are associated with certain political stances, it is important to note that the conference itself is nonpartisan and focused on professional learning. The event brings together school board members and school administrators from across the country to discuss challenges and opportunities in public education.
We believe it is essential to remain informed when it comes to the trends affecting public schools nationwide. This conference is allowing some of our board members and superintendent to learn from peers in similar roles, which ultimately supports the success of our students and schools here in Watertown.
The individuals in attendance plan to share key takeaways during the next regularly scheduled board meeting on Monday, July 28.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide clarification on this issue.
Sincerely,
Craig Wortman
WUSD School Board President
and
Jarred Burke
Superintendent of Schools
