Families, Staff, and Community Members,
Thank you for your continued support of our mission and vision. Your partnership matters, and it makes a difference for our students every day.
As we move forward, we want to continue to be clear and honest. Our district, and our community, continue to face real financial challenges impacting district operations. We have worked hard to plan responsibly, and we have shared over the past several months that, regardless of the outcome of the April 7, 2026 Operational Referendum, reductions would be necessary in order to prevent a budget deficit for the 2026-27 school year.
Today, we are sharing those reductions. They include:
3.5 teaching positions at the high school
3.5 teaching positions at the middle school
2 teaching positions across the elementary schools
2 positions across the Special Education department
1 position at the district office
1 position within the technology department
Decreases in discretionary budgets
Decreases in overtime costs
These decisions were not made lightly. Reductions have been made across all groups within our district. They will have an impact on learning and teaching. We understand that, and we feel the weight of it.
At the same time, we remain committed to what matters most. Our work will continue to be student-driven and data-informed. We will focus on supporting our learners, strengthening relationships, and maintaining high-quality instruction in every classroom.
The WUSD Board of Education has recently approved the creation of a District of the Future Advisory Committee. This group of stakeholders will come together to plan for honoring the legacy of LEAP and Lincoln elementary schools, support successful transitions of families and students to new learning communities, and develop recommendations for the future of programming and facilities across our district.
The Board of Education has also approved the completion of several internal and external construction projects at the high school this summer. These improvements are intended to better position the building to serve and support all learners and staff.
Finally, we remain committed to open and honest communication. We will continue to share updates, answer questions, and be present in our schools and community.
Thank you for your trust, your understanding, and your continued support of our schools.
