Operational Referendum News

Dear Members of our Watertown Community,

Thank you for your continued commitment to the future of the Watertown Unified School District and to our community. Your engagement, questions, and support show how deeply you care about our students and the direction of our school district.

On the evening of December 10, 2025, the members of our Board of Education gathered to continue their discussion of the recent community survey results. The Board again engaged in robust, solution-focused conversations about our financial needs and the possibility of placing an operational referendum question on the April 2026 ballot. After thoughtful consideration, the Board identified a draft referendum question that reflects both the feedback from our community and the priorities of our schools.

In the coming days, the administration, using the draft language approved on December 10, will work with legal counsel to prepare a referendum resolution for Board action at the December 15, 2025 Board of Education meeting. As always, we will approach this work with a focus on honoring our tradition of strong public education while embracing the innovation and transformation needed to ensure a bright future for every learner.

We encourage all families, staff, and community members to stay informed and engaged as this process continues. Your partnership truly matters, and together we can navigate these important decisions with clarity and purpose.

Thank you again for your ongoing support of our students, our schools, and our community.

In Community and Education,

Dr. Jarred Burke
Superintendent of Schools
