✨ Schurz Elementary School earns state recognition for academic achievement, student growth - named a 2023-24 Wisconsin School of Recognition! ✨
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has named Schurz Elementary School a 2023–24 Wisconsin School of Recognition, an honor highlighting its dedication to student growth and achievement.
Schurz Elementary School received the award in the High Impact category. This distinction is based on a rigorous set of criteria, including academic performance, measurable progress in student growth or graduation rates, and reducing achievement gaps - particularly among students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
"We are honored to be recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as a Wisconsin School of Recognition,” said Schurz Elementary School Principal Casey Rusch-Weiland. “This award is a testament to the incredible dedication of our students, staff, and families.”
“It reflects the daily commitment at Schurz to support a wide range of student needs, while maintaining high expectations for all learners,” Rusch-Weiland said. “This recognition celebrates the strong partnerships and hard work that make our school community so special, and we are proud to represent our district in this achievement."
The Wisconsin Schools of Recognition program honors Title I schools that demonstrate success in educating all students, particularly those experiencing poverty. After a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, the DPI resumed the awards for the 2023–24 school year to continue celebrating schools that make a lasting impact.
Watertown Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Jarred Burke said the Watertown community and the WUSD Board of Education “set a high standard with its new Strategic Plan in the area of Inspired Academic Excellence and Student Growth.” He added, “Our administration and staff are working with families and students to make true and lasting progress in the pillar of academic achievement, and I congratulate our students and their teachers for their hard work and commitment to growth!”
