Audio and Video Resources

Audio Galleries

Audio resources will help you get started on your search for audio supplements. Copyright laws allow you to use 30 seconds, or 10% of a recorded work, which ever is shorter. If this doesn't fit your needs, check out some of these sites to get music for your multimedia productions. Remember, read the copyright carefully. Royalty free does not necessarily mean free.

The following links were checked last on May 3, 2011.  At that time, all links were live and free.  If that has changed, please let me know.  Also, if you have found a good resource that you think should be added, drop it in the suggestion box, please.

Sound Effects and Bumpers

The following galleries contain primarily music archives.  Keep in mind that royalty free does not always mean "free".  Read the fine print.

Absolute Sound Effects
A collection of various sound effects.
Freeplay Music
Various genres organized into 10, 15, 20, etc. second increments. If it is good enough for NBC's 2000 Olympic presentations, it might work for your classroom presentation.
Orange Fresh Sounds
Great sight for free sounds to use in your videos and radio productions.
Sound Dog
Sound FXs, music loops, and other samples.

Public Domain

Public Domain does mean free.  These songs were released into the public domain by the author, or they are so old that the copyright has expired.  You may use public domain music in its entirety without fear of violating copyright.

Public Domain 4U
It's name says it all. AWESOME jazz collections you won't find anywhere else.
MP3 4U
New artists who enter their music into 'the wild' in the hopes of getting their sound out there. Contemporary sounds minus the big names.
Jazz Online
Oldtime Jazz.

Creative Commons

Creative Commons is a licensing option that some authors use to freely share their works. You are allowed to use these songs in exchange for acknowledgment.
